George to review progress of ‘old school’ rebuild project (which he worked to secure)

Posted on: 26th November 2018

Former Helston MP and Helston School old boy, Andrew George, will bring his Party Leader Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable MP to Helston Community College for a series of meetings including a public Meeting on matters of the day. This will take place on Thursday 29th November (see attached poster).

While he’s there Andrew will seek an update from the College on the progress of the School re-build project. Andrew worked hard to help secure the promised funding for the important re-build after many false starts. He even had to battle against efforts by the Conservatives towards the end of the Coalition Government who wanted to stop the grant award for purely partisan reasons.

Mr George said, “Helston College had been let down many times before. It was brilliant when in 2015 we finally got the funding it deserved. The College had endured many falsely raised hopes. At one time the previous (Conservative-run) Cornwall Council administration promised to fund the project when in fact they had no budget for it.

“So it’s great that the project has moved ahead and is scheduled to be completed on time next year. Congratulations to the College Governors, staff and wider community for their stoicism and perseverance.”
