George seeking to strengthen business voice

Posted on: 31st October 2013

The MP for the West Cornwall and Isles of Scilly constituency of St Ives, Andrew George, will be consulting businesses throughout his constituency before meeting Business Secretary, Rt. Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, later in the year to establish a new business contract with Government.

With strong signs of economic recovery, Mr George is keen to ensure that businesses across West Cornwall and the Scillies share in the economic growth and maximise the opportunities of Government support and deregulation.

Mr George said: “Since the creation of the Coalition Government, 1.5 million more jobs have been created by businesses across the UK, unemployment is down and there are strong signs of economic recovery.

“It is vitally important that businesses in West Cornwall capitalise on the opportunity of economic recovery. That is why I will be consulting with local businesses to build upon an agenda to ensure that the Government understands what businesses in this part of the world need in order to both contribute to that recovery and enjoy the benefits of it.”

Mr George will be circulating a survey to local businesses to seek views on Government regulation, banking and banking reform, staff recruitment, apprenticeships, Government business initiatives (such as Business Improvement Districts) and what else the Government can do to get behind small businesses in particular.

Mr George will also be pressing the need to promote opportunities for businesses to take on apprenticeships across the constituency.
