George secures debate on Cornish health services

MP for the West Cornwall and Isles of Scilly constituency of St Ives, Andrew George, has secured a Parliamentary debate on health services in Cornwall next week.

Mr George, who is a member of the Health Select Committee and an officer of the Associate Parliamentary Health Group, has secured the debate in Westminster Hall on Tuesday 11th December.

The debate will focus primarily on the issue of fair funding and how Cornwall will adjust to a completely re-organised health service following the passing of the Health and Social Care Act earlier this year. This will introduce greater competition and a risk of fragmentation of services.

In addition, Mr George will use the opportunity to discuss a range of other issues including cervical screening of young women, proposals to introduce regional pay in the South West, Serco and the out of hours GP service and nurse staffing levels.

The debate will take place at 4pm.
