George revisits Goonhilly – now “going from strength to strength”
Former MP and Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Andrew George, will revisit Goonhilly Earth Station on Friday 25th May to view the progress of the company he did much to help as MP.
Goonhilly Earth Station (GES) Ltd has been going from strength to strength in the highly globally competitive world of space science and radio astronomy. It is putting Cornwall back on the world satellite communications map and creating more jobs than anticipated.
GES Ltd Chief Exec, Ian Jones said, “As Goonhilly goes from strength to strength we’re pleased to welcome Andrew George back to look around the site and reflect on first meeting him back in 2010 when our business was just starting. Andrew showed great resolve as our constituency MP in helping us to establish the business even when many were opposed to our plans or unsure we would be successful. We’re extremely grateful for that early support that laid the foundations for the successful company that we have become.”
Andrew said, “GES is proving to be the success I knew it would be. They are breathing life back into Goonhilly. They had the vision and enterprise to both see and fulfil the potential after BT turned its back on the place and the determination to facedown opponents, doubters and sceptics. We succeeded in spite of hostility from some on the Conservative side of the Coalition Government. Goonhilly’s growing success is a vindication for those of us who were determined not to be deterred by the obstacles thrown in our way.
“Although I’m sure Brexit will present new challenges I’m confident that GES has the resilience to succeed and grow.”
Andrew will visit Goonhilly at 10am on Friday. He and the Company will also discuss matters of space science, the impact of Brexit, the future ambitions of the Company and local issues.
