George ‘over the moon’ at news of government support for Goonhilly project

Posted on: 6th December 2011

Local MP Andrew George has hailed the exciting news that the Lizard Peninsula will receive a major jobs boost, with significant Government support.

Both the much trailed Space Research Project and a significant satellite broadband project have today received Government confirmation that they will get crucial RGF support for a major jobs boost for the area.

Mr George said: “I’m ‘over the moon’. This is a real game changer. It’s a big jobs boost for the area, especially after Goonhilly had been run down over recent years.

“It will breathe new life into the local economy and gives the UK a competitive edge in what is bound to be a growing technology and an exciting emerging market.

“These projects tick all the right boxes. High tech and well paid jobs in an area that desperately needs it, the re use of £40 million of otherwise redundant infrastructure, placing the UK at the forefront of an arena of expanding technological and scientific research and development.

“The UK space industry is excited and I know local people will be thrilled.”
