George meeting with St Ives Business Improvement Group
St Ives MP, Andrew George, met St Ives BID Steering Group last Friday evening. The Town’s Business Improvement District Group invited Mr George to the meeting to seek his advice in dealing with some contention about and opposition to the BID.
Mr George has met with and supported all other BIDs in his constituency (at Penzance and Helston) and has offered assistance. He also first wrote to the St Ives BID in January last year to request a meeting. He is pleased that the BID has asked to meet and was looking forward to the private discussions.
Mr George said on Friday, “I look forward to the meeting and to a progress report. Ministers are keen for local MPs to update them on opportunities and challenges faced by high street and town centre businesses. We can best do this through an open exchange at meetings like this. It’s a regret we have not met before now. I certainly hope that the problems I’ve heard about are not beyond resolution. There are a number of issues relating to the flow of correspondence from the DCLG. As such, I look forward to receiving a status update on the BID process.”
