VAT

West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, has called for a reduction on VAT for tourism businesses.  Mr George is a long term campaigner for a fairer rate of VAT for tourism and is calling for Government action. Lowering the rate of VAT would make the UK more commensurate with other EU countries – 24 of the 27 EU countries have reduced VAT for tourism.

Mr George said, “A fairer rate of VAT for tourism businesses would place the UK on a par with primary competitors in Europe; generating income, encouraging more tourists to visit West Cornwall and leading to economic growth.

“Guest Houses and Hotels have to charge an extra 20% in VAT whilst many second home owners can use loopholes to avoid paying anything.”
