George – There is a better way of doing Coalition Government

Posted on: 5th October 2014

West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, has today published a paper to promote debate, in the lead up to next May’s General Election, on how to create a better version of Coalition Government.

Mr George’s paper is released today in this week’s Liberal Democrat Conference edition of Lib Dem Voice. He was also interviewed by the The World This Weekend on BBC Radio 4 – which was broadcast earlier today.

Mr George said, “Coalition Government should be an opportunity to strengthen our democratic institutions. This model would slacken the straight jacket around the Parties of a Coalition, as applied in the last 4 and half years, and offer more reasoned latitude – and which would strengthen Parliament and give everyone a chance to engage in and to influence Government policy; rather than the once every 5 year opportunity afforded by the kind of elective dictatorships we’ve experienced in recent times.”
