“Fantastic success” for school rebuilding campaign
Helston Community College and former student, West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, will today celebrate the “fantastic success” of their long campaign to secure funds necessary to rebuild most of the north site of the College.
Mr George will welcome Deputy Prime Minister Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP to the College at approximately 9.45am today, whilst his Liberal Democrat colleague, Schools Minister Rt Hon David Laws MP, announces the £2bn Priority Schools Building Programme.
The funding being announced will enable the rebuilding of 55% of Helston Community College and over 80% of the north site of the College buildings.
Also being announced is the success of an application by Humphry Davy School for the refurbishment of school buildings.
Mr George has been a long term campaigner for the school which has been disappointed twice before in its efforts to raise money for the rebuild.
Mr George said, “It’s fantastic news that Humphry Davy and Helston Community College are receiving badly needed substantial funding to improve their buildings. Both schools have outstanding reputations and this funding is richly deserved.
“All local children deserve proper facilities to help them reach their full potential at school. This announcement is great news for two more of our local schools.”
