Fair Share campaign – a step forward

Posted on: 16th December 2013

Commenting on the recent remarks of the Chancellor that rural areas are being short changed with Government funding to Local Authorities, local MP Andrew George urged campaigners to keep up the pressure on Government Ministers.

Mr George, who recently presented a petition to Parliament on behalf of more than 1,000 constituents in St Ives calling for the Government to give rural local authorities like Cornwall a ‘Fair Share’, said:

“The penny is beginning to drop. As the Chancellor says, there are some circumstances where a school in say rural Cornwall which has the same level of deprivation as an urban school gets significantly less central Govt funding. That can’t be right. And it’s a problem across most areas of central Govt support for rural areas.”
