EDM | Loftus Saxon Treasure
Andrew George MP has signed EDM number 1796 in 2010-11, proposed by Tom Blenkinsop on 11/05/2011.
The motion reads,
That this House notes and welcomes the news that a collection of seventh century treasure found in Loftus, East Cleveland, is set to go on show locally; further notes that these treasures are unique to the North East’s Saxon heritage; further notes that they were excavated by local archaeologists aided by volunteers from the Loftus community and the Tees Archaeological Service; further welcomes the news that the Heritage Lottery Fund is allowing them to remain in the area where they were found; and agrees that their place in a free local museum will give the people of East Cleveland the opportunity to see physical evidence of their Saxon forbears and their direct democracy of the Witan, their people’s militia of the Fyrd and their custom of kings and queens directly chosen for ability.
