We deserve a reliable rail link from Penzance
Following a weekend of visits to sites which have been affected by storm damage around the coast and representations to the Prime Minister, Transport Secretary and others, West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, has called upon the Prime Minister to make sure that the Penzance to Paddington rail line receives the necessary investment and priority for it to become a reliable and resilient link in the decades ahead.
Mr George had challenged the Prime Minister last Wednesday in the House of Commons to commit his support to the rail link after severe damage in the Dawlish area. The Prime Minister will be visiting the region today and the Transport Secretary, Rt. Hon Patrick McLoughlin, inspected the Dawlish site last Friday.
Mr George said, “MPs across all parties from this region have been prepared to support £multi-billion investments for transport links to the north. We did not feel that it would be fair to deny the primary corridors of population their desired investment.
“However, it is only reasonable to ask the rest of the country to support our demand for the modest investment necessary to secure a resilient service from Penzance.”
