Cod conservation success exposes quota scandal

Fishermen will present Fisheries Minister Richard Benyon MP with evidence of the scandalous dumping of abundant cod stocks at a meeting in Newlyn tomorrow. Cod stocks have recovered dramatically following the successful measures fishermen pushed for five years ago to protect cod stocks in the Western Approaches.

Local fishermen are now able to catch their monthly quota of cod so easily that it barely lasts them a day. Cod stocks are now so abundant that it has now exposed the ludicrously miniscule quota which local fishermen have been left with.

Local MP, Andrew George, has organised a meeting for local fishermen and Fisheries Minister in the Fishermen’s Mission, Newlyn at 9.45 am tomorrow (28th February 2012) and the Minister will be available to speak to the media afterwards – at 10.45 am.
