West Cornwall Health Campaigners will deliver birthday cards, thanks and cheer signed and supported by hundreds of local patients on the afternoon of NHS 70th Birthday celebrations in Penzance, St.Ives, Hayle and Helston tomorrow 5th July.
Led by members of West Cornwall Healthwatch and Andrew George (former MP) the group have arranged to visit each hospital to convey thanks on behalf of the whole community.
Campaigners had been put on the streets at the weekend collecting thousands of signatures of locals who are supporting their campaign for “Proper Funding” for our NHS. They say the government’s promise of adding 3.4% extra “won’t paper over the cracks of a service which is struggling more now than at any time in its 70 year history”.
Andrew George said, “We have remarkable, committed and dedicated staff in our NHS. It’s would be easy to take this service for granted. Our gentle thank you to our staff is our way of showing our appreciation.”
There will be a “Happy Birthday NHS” public meeting and debate in the evening (at 7pm) at Old Cathedral School, Cathedral Close, Truro TR1 2FQ where the main speakers will be Dr Rupert Manley, Cllr Jayne Kirkham, Louvain Sanders and Andrew George.
