Andrew George MP has expressed concerns about Bovine TB pilot.
Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman today gave the go ahead for controlled culling of badgers as part of a package of measures to tackle bovine TB. The approach will be piloted in two areas in Autumn 2012.
Commenting on today’s announcement Andrew George MP – Lib Dem Agricultural Spokesman – said:
“The Government is right. Doing nothing is not an option. This disease is devastating many livestock areas.
“We must all hope that this policy will help and not make the matter worse.
“In particular the Government will have to strengthen its plans to undertake a proper and rigorous assessment of the badger population in each of the pilot areas. This should take place both before and after the cull, for each of the four years. The Government must also ensure that badgers collected from the cull are actually from the pilot areas and not outside them.”
