Bitter disappointment at Remploy announcement

Posted on: 10th July 2012

Speaking in the Commons today local MP Andrew George said that there would be bitter disappointment in the Penzance area at the announcement that the Penzance factory had not been earmarked to go forward for further negotiations on an alternative business model.

Mr George pointed out that strenuous efforts had been made by Remploy management, workers and supporters along with local colleges and the Brandon Trust to come up with an alternative business take over.

He asked the Minister for Disabled People, Maria Miller MP, for a meeting. The Minister agreed to meet with Mr George but pointed out that the factory makes a £700,000 loss per annum and that she couldn’t promise that such a meeting would have a satisfactory outcome.
