Andrew George MP: Wishing ‘All Power’ to Wave Energy Project
West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, met with the Chief Executive of Ocean Power Technologies, Angus Norman, at his constituency office in Penzance today.
Mr Norman updated Mr George on the company’s progress with the development and sea trials of its wave energy device.
Although recent sea trials for OPT’s device are being undertaken in the Moray Firth this year, Mr Norman confirmed that OPT retains a ‘commitment agreement’ with the Wave Hub Project and is looking at several options to advance the installation of its existing wave energy buoy and the future development of a wave energy farm.
Mr George said: “The West Cornwall project has the advantage of excellent infrastructure and the support of excellent local marine companies with first class skills and track record.”
Following the installation of the cable and plug off the North Coast of St Ives, Mr George hopes to see wave energy generating devices installed on site over the next couple of years.
