PENINSULA COMMUNITY HEALTH

A SUDDEN BIRTH – WILL NEED LOTS OF NURTURING AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Commenting on the creation this week of Peninsula Community Health – the Community Interest Company which has taken over the adult community health services of the Primary Care Trust – local MP, Andrew George, said:

“We all want the company to be a success. But the PCH has been created in a climate of significant controversy and with the insufficient community support or consultation.

“Nevertheless, it is important that we all now get behind the organisation and make sure that it delivers what our communities and patients want. As a Community Interest Company it should place the ‘interests’ of the ‘community’ and its staff at its heart.

“It has denied that it has plans to close up to 52 beds – plans which were incorporated in the original ‘Business Plan’ submitted to the Strategic Health Authority at the end of last year. Now managers will need to show that the ‘community’ in whose ‘interest’ the ‘company’ is operating can engage openly and build confidence with its patients, community and staff. It must do more to ensure that local communities are fully informed about the plans for the future of this service.

“We wish it well.”
