Andrew George MP – Casework surgeries

West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, has published his forthcoming Autumn and Winter 2014 casework surgeries. As well as the approximately 3,000 new cases he takes up through phone calls, letters, emails and visits to his office, he takes up hundreds more cases as a result of meeting locals at his casework surgeries.

Mr George, who regularly holds advice surgeries in Penzance, St Ives and Helston, has expanded his surgery itinerary during the last couple of years to meet an ever growing demand for surgery appointments. He also holds regular surgeries in a dozen other locations across the Lizard and Penwith peninsulas and on Scilly.

Mr George said: “It’s a privilege to represent this area and local people. Of course I hope that I can help those who come to see me. That’s certainly not always possible, but I try my best.

“But it’s also an important opportunity for me to meet local people and hear what it is like to face the burdens and challenges they face. MPs run the risk of becoming out of touch if they spend too much time in Westminster and not enough with the people they represent.

“We will continue to provide additional surgery locations for people right across the constituency. The confirmed surgery locations across will hopefully provide a convenient opportunity for people to come to discuss their personal and political concerns.”

Mr George’s staff who book surgery appointments in advance, recommend that people book in advance to be sure that there will be enough time to meet. Generally there’s a backlog of at least a few weeks, because demand remains so high. If Mr George finishes his surgery early he stays to meet locals in each location to discuss other local issues in a more general open meeting.
