And a second pat on your back. Our strong campaign for honest funding to save our NHS is working. Though the Conservative Government hasn’t given our NHS anything close to what it needs at least their claims of extra funding shows that the penny has dropped.

Public spending announcements are rarely reported clearly by the national media. The slavish repetition of the mantra “£20 billion extra for the NHS” usually fails to add the crucial words “in 2023/4”! The “extra” is about only £3 billion next year. Hardly enough to pay off NHS debt, let alone address the staff shortages and the pressure for cuts and closures in the years ahead.

So pat yourselves on the back for making progress, but help us keep the campaign going. Thanks.
