ENCOURAGING NEWS FOR WEST CORNWALL AND ST MICHAEL’S HOSPITALS

The MP for the West Cornwall and Isles of Scilly constituency of St Ives, Andrew George, has welcomed the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report into the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. The CQC report will be published formally today,Thursday 27th March.
Mr George said: “This is reassuring and encouraging – a step in the right direction.
“Although the CQC has identified a number of areas for improvement and early action, I believe that the staff can be very proud of themselves for the endorsement that this provides. This is especially encouraging for West Cornwall and St Michael’s Hospitals and an endorsement of all of those who have campaigned so hard to maintain services in both of these hospitals.
“Clearly, my continuing concern about the relative underfunding of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust in contrast with other parts of the country remains. Unfair underfunding will not aid the Trust in responding to the challenges it faces. Good results cannot be achieved without safe staffing and I hope Ministers will acknowledge that great hospitals like those managed by the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, cannot deliver that without reasonable parity of funding.”
