Andrew George
Promoting the
Politics of Courage
I’m running a positive campaign to restore decency and honesty to our politics. To build a brighter future. To combat those who want us to become more inward-looking, backward-looking, more self-absorbed. I’ll build a campaign for an outward-looking, forward-looking and compassionate country.
We’ve been misled by a privileged clique who’ve irresponsibly played on fears to stoke prejudice. We must get beyond the Brexit chaos they’ve dragged our country into. We must restore the things that matter for the sake of our children’s future – our NHS, our schools and the very sustainability of our planet.
Come and join a growing campaign team. We’re determined to win this seat back this time, to make the difference, to build a brighter future.
Many people say “you politicians are all the same”. That statement has never been more untrue. The choice here is stark:

Only political change will end this sewage scandal
Sewage Companies must be forced to invest in clean-up, not giveaway top exec bonuses and shareholder dividends.
Figures released by the Environment Agency today show that South West Water nearly doubled raw sewage discharges in the last year - from 290,271 hours in 2022 to 530,737 hrs last year.
Liberal Democrats are committed to taking tough action against sewage dumping in local rivers/beaches, replacing Ofwat with a more effective regulator, installing an independent community environmental champion on every Board, converting companies to community benefit societies and banning exec bonuses.
Conservative MPs have sought to excuse water companies and believe it's acceptable for the discharges to continue. All Conservative MPs representing Cornwall's constituencies have consistently voted against measures which would have helped to tackle the crisis.
Since the Conservatives created these privatised water companies over £74 billion has been paid out to top execs and shareholders. If even half of this were instead invested in treatment and attenuation infrastructure these problems would barely exist. New housing developments are required to build in infrastructure to ensure each estate can manage up to a 1 in 100 year rainfall event on site - in their SuDS design (Surface Water/Sustainable Urban Drainage System). The least SWW and other companies can do is to at least match this with the massive monopoly income receive each year.
SWW promised us a "Clean Sweep". What we need is a "clean sweep” to rid us of Conservative MPs so that we can get on with sorting this out and the many other problems they've created or presided over.

Good news. Should have happened last October. It was obvious then what the far-right Netanyahu government would do while countries like the UK gave them a green light to bludgeon the Palestinian people.“After months of violence in which far too many innocent lives have been lost, this resolution brings us one step closer to peace.”

Checking up on these wonderful four-legged conservation volunteers on the Towans today. They deliver our conservation grazing programme in all weathers! Without these ponies this remarkable and very special area rich in rare biodiversity would revert to scrub.
Enjoyed by thousands every week. Trustees of the Friends of the Towans merely ask locals and visitors to be considerate, especially to the wildlife. Oh, and to say hello to the ponies as you pass. 😊

This has been left for too long. It's time for all Parties to agree a way forward.
Though just one in four delayed discharges in Cornwall are primarily biased by capacity problems in social care (the rest are shortages in NHS primary and community care), there's a wider and looming problem ahead. An inadequate budget with a forecast black hole, and changing demographics where there are far more people who need care than there are people who can provide it.If you want to fix the NHS, you have to fix care too.
We are calling on all parties to include in their manifestos a cast-iron commitment to finally hold cross-party talks on social care –
To finally forge the agreement that has been kicked down the road for far too long.

Well done Cornwall Wildlife Trust
It's vitally important that nature & climate become a central concern in the next parliament.
Last night's hustings in Helston rightly challenges us all. With about 1/6th of UK species threatened with extinction and many more in serious decline, and with the UK well off-track from meeting its own climate targets, the new parliament will need to work hard to turn things around.
Much cross party agreement of course. But there was still a wide gulf between many assertions and claims made by the Conservative supporter of the present government and the reality.

Speaking Up
We lost by the narrow margin of just 312 votes at the last election. I was asked by news reporters immediately afterwards “how disappointed” I felt. I explained that I wasn’t disappointed for myself, but for the people I hoped to speak up for and who deserved to have their voice heard in Parliament.
After all, in Cornwall the Conservative Party secured the support of just 35% of the Cornish electorate yet secured 100% of the seats, …100% of the voice.
The Conservatives primarily speak up for those who are already more than able to speak up for themselves: the wealthy, the landed, big business, the privileged, powerful media barons, those who believe the poor have only themselves to blame etc.
But who’ll speak for the poor, the poorly housed, our NHS, our schools, our public servants, our environment, refugees, for Britain to be an ambassador for peace and reconciliation in a wider world, or even for foxes who’d rather not be chased to their death just for recreational fun?
Though a clear majority of voters in this constituency agree we must find a voice for the voiceless, unfortunately old fashioned tribalism ensured the votes of the majority were split and so helped gift this seat to the Conservatives on another minority vote.
We owe it to the voiceless to do all we can to stop that happening here this time. That’s why I’ve been working to seek cooperation between those on the centre/left of politics. I continue that work. I hope you’ll join me.
